Asparagus Storage and Preparation

Not only is asparagus delicious it is also very good for you! It is rich in Folic Acid and a wide range of essential vitamins and minerals.

It is also low in calories, fat, cholesterol and sodium. It even has aphrodisiac properties - the perfect health food!

To store your asparagus, cool and damp conditions are ideal. The fridge is the best place for your asparagus, but they will be thirsty. To water your asparagus, you can store the fresh spears upright in a container with 1cm cold water, like flowers. Alternatively, you can wrap the spears in a clean damp tea towel wrapped in a plastic bag or, instead of using a tea towel, rinse the spears daily. Stored correctly, your asparagus will stay fresh for 4 - 5 days. Yummy!

Asparagus is very quick and easy to prepare. Rinse in water and snap the base ends off by carefully holding each spear in two hands and allowing the spear to snap.

It is an incredibly versatile vegetable and so easy to prepare. You can steam, roast, griddle, stir fry or barbeque it - go on, give it a try!
